Karl Leinberger Interviewed About MoviePass Problems

Our consumer law attorney Karl Leinberger was recently interviewed by CBS Chicago regarding the problems users have had with the subscription service MoviePass. MoviePass allows subscribers to watch unlimited movies for less than $10 per month, but the service has begun placing limitations on what movies you can watch and how often you can watch them.

Last month, users had an unwelcome surprise when an error in the app prevented them from seeing any movies. They had no idea what was going on, and had to buy separate tickets if they wanted to see the movie. It later came to light that MoviePass literally ran out of money, and had to take out a loan to restore service to users.

Karl Leinberger warns current MoviePass subscribers and people looking to sign up for the service that these money problems could be the beginning of the end for this popular movie service. Keep in mind that if the company goes under, you may still be responsible for paying for the remainder of your service. However, you should be able to cancel future membership.

At the moment, it looks as though MoviePass subscribers will not be able to sue the company. Its “terms of use” policy protects itself against legal action. We know that it’s rare for users to read through any company’s “terms and conditions” before signing up, but this case is a prime example of why you should always read the fine print before locking yourself into an agreement.
