Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel resigned May 5 several months after a security breach during the holiday season exposed the credit card information of tens of millions of Target customers.
Mr. Steinhafel’s resignation was also related to business complications Target experienced with regards to its Canadian expansion. However, analysts agree that the data breach, one of the most significant in American history, played a significant role in the decision.
Of course, the true victims here are the consumers threatened by the breach. Credit card fraud was already a significant problem, and the Target breach simply exposed more innocent Americans to criminal predations.
Markoff Leinberger’s Chicago consumer rights lawyers have seen how credit card fraud can devastate the life of a victim. Those hurt by the Target breach are no exceptions.
Target has announced a significant overhaul of its credit card security systems after the breach.
